WALT - Working Against Loneliness Together

Who we are

We are a small charitable organisation that promotes social inclusion. We are local people supporting local people. We offer our support by creating 'safe spaces' and opportunities for people in ME5 to connect with others, feel less lonely and isolated; and have a regular programme of activities they can enjoy and look forward to.

What we do

We address feelings of loneliness and isolation and much of our work involves us supporting people by coordinating our generous team of volunteers, to deliver a variety of services and support, that bring people together in a meaningful way. We help people to connect with others, improve their social support networks and facilitate access to community and health services, by signposting and referrals to other local voluntary groups, organisations, and statutory services.

Why we do it

Many of the people we help report feeling isolated or lonely most of the time. Prolonged exposure to these feelings can have a significant impact on our general health and wellbeing. We are passionate about helping people to reduce the risks of this happening.

How we do it

We work closely with our community partners and volunteers to provide recreational activities which include social events, an in-person and telephone befriending service, health awareness events and activities, an annual summer trip, peer support groups for young families and an exciting collaborative working project to support men improve their general overall wellbeing and feel less lonely and isolated is in the pipeline.

Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do, and our activities would not be possible without their support. We have a range of opportunities to fit everyone. Head to our Volunteers Page for more information.
